All the universe conspires you to visit Plitvice Lakes in Croatia on your trip to Europe. You will surely fall in love with Plitvice, a place so unique and gorgeous that it almost looks like heaven on Earth.
The natural beauty of the cascading lakes, with dozens of waterfalls and crystal-clear water that fades from azure to green, is magical, it is the ultimate fairy-tale destination.
There are sixteen lakes, all interconnected and fed by runoff from the surrounding mountains and surrounded by picture-perfect woodlands. It is frequently mentioned as a highlight of Croatia.
Plitvice Lakes are located about halfway between Zagreb and Zadar. These cities are awesome places to visit, Zagreb is the capital of Croatia, and Zadar is a fun coastal city.
Driving to lakes from either of these cities will take almost an hour, and there have a parking. The best way to get to Plitvice Lakes is by car. There are also buses from Zagreb and Zadar which go directly to the lakes.
With water as clear as crystal glass, even the scales of small fish can be seen evidently.
Swimming for human beings is prohibited here!
This rule is an attempt to save the rich marine life of Plitvice which is home to many species of water creatures.
The thick vegetation is home to various endangered and rare species of flora and fauna. Birds, reptiles, amphibians, butterflies, mammals and numerous species of plants – all live in perfect harmony in Plitvice.
Plitvice is ever beautiful, though changes its looks for every season. If the Autumn colors of the foliage in Plitvice entice the eyes, the cheerful green vegetation of the Spring invites for a treat.
Winter doesn’t hold back and shows off its frozen lakes and waterfalls while trees are covered with fresh snowfall.
If you don’t want to share the walkways with hundreds of other tourists, I’d suggest arriving at the lakes at opening, either 7 am or 8 am depending on the time of the year.
